Friends of the Westfield Senior Center, Inc.
Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Must I be a resident of Westfield in order to join the Friends group?
A:  Anyone may join the Friends of the Westfield Senior Center.  Residency in Westfield is not a requirement.  Current members are residents as well as friends, relatives, and former residents living out of town or out of state.

Q:  Are there age restrictions?  Must I be 60 or older to belong to the Friends group?
A:  Anyone, regardless of age, may become a member of the Friends of the Westfield Senior Center.

Q:  What is the cost of membership?
A:  An “Individual” membership is $10 per year.  A “Family” membership is $20 per year.  And an individual “Lifetime” membership is $100.  In addition, donations are always welcome!

Q:  How is the “Family” member status defined?
A:  A “family” is defined as immediate family members living in the same household at the same time.  Examples are a husband and wife, parent(s) and child(ren), or siblings.

Q:  What is required of me as a member of the Friends group?  Do I have to attend meetings?
A:  Active participation in the Friends of the Westfield Senior Center group is up to the individual members.  Members may choose to join a committee and get involved in fundraising or they may simply support the goals of the organization through their membership fees and their verbal support.  Spreading the word about the need for a new Senior Center is incredibly helpful.

Q:  Will I receive any public recognition as a member of the Friends group?
A:  New members are listed in the Council On Aging monthly “Golden Pages” newsletter.  In addition, a visual display of Friends members has been created at the Senior Center for visitors to see.

Q:  What is the status of the new Senior Center project?
A:  Phase I has been completed with an ideal site selected.  The Mary A. Noble estate on Noble Street was willed to the Housing Authority and they have given the City permission to build a new Senior Center on the 2 ½ acre site.  However, a legal procedure is necessary before construction can begin.  In the meantime, we are in the early stage of Phase II, the selection of an architect.

Q:  How will the money raised by the Friends of the Westfield Senior Center be spent?
A:  The money raised by the Friends group will be used to help furnish the new Senior Center with items such as sofas, lounge chairs, card and game tables, pool tables, display cases, patio furniture, book cases, office work stations, commercial kitchen equipment, and café tables and chairs.

Q:  Will the Friends group give my name and address to other non-profit organizations?
A:  Your name and other identifying information will not be given or sold to any other non-profit groups.
